Livets långa lärande

Saturday, March 4th, 2006

Long day at school, 08-23. Peter, Fredde and me messing with the Khepera robot. We need some trigonometry for finding out the directions to move and to avoid obstacles, and I think I might aproximately have drawn about 25 figures with coordinate axes and triangles today :)

Khepera

Bah, just got home. Been at school the whole day (except for lunch). Messing with the Khepera robot. It’s fun and tomorrow we must start early to finish the assignment.

No focus and all blurred (Smile!)

The more to do the less is done. I’m a hardcore one-thing-at-the-time-and-frenetically guy and right now there are too many assignments, tests and shit going on so I cannot concentrate. Or maybe it is because it’s springtime who knows. I wonder what would happen if there wasn’t a system. I mean, if school was the place where you grew your talents and nobody would ever tell you what to do, they would only be there for you to give you the material you asked for and teach you what they know about whatever it is you want to know more about. Not that I complain (much) about the content of my education. It’s just that sometimes the pace is to slow. And sometimes (more often) the pace is to high. I would like to take a course, and do the test. Then they would give me a month free to do some project that has to do with what I had just learned, choice is mine to come up with a project. Imagine what interesting resume you would have then. And imagine how motivating it would be, because then you would choose an application you really see some potential in. Hard to coordinate such an education for all these students, yes i know, but you’re allowed to dream are you not?

Whatelse is new? Except for lots of schoolwork I mean :) Yesterday I went to some information about new (and old) courses at department of CS this autumn. Think I’ll take Image recognition (bildanalys) and Database design and maybe Virtual reality. Maybe some more electronics course at TFE?

Time’s up!

Been at school from 8:45-21:45 today, long day. Some lectures, and the rest of the time we have been playing around with a little robot called Khepera, for the AI II course of course. This weekend (friday, saturday) is Umeå Open and I’m ready to Rock and Roll!

Räkfrossa

Passed two of the exams (OS, CI) and failed one (Statistics). I’ll give statistics a new try next saturday. It’s been a lot of school lately so it felt really nice to go out yesterday. First there was a party at Jonas place, quite alot of people from WBN Nation there. Then we went to Nationernas Hus and something called "Räkfrossan". The food was tasty, the female/male ratio really good, and I met some really nice people so the evening was all happy joy and nice.

Gee, I wish the easterbunny would come and get me

So now is the period when you actually learn stuff? Heh, well I remember how it was when i started computer science, I would do almost no studying most of the semester (playing Quake3 around the clock), except for the week before the exam when I disconnected from the rest of the world and did nothing but study for a week. That would work because the exams were simple then. Gradually I have been putting more and more effort into the schoolwork. This semester I have distributed the effort more uniformly over the whole semester. Still, right now is the exam period and also you must finish all the laborations, so schoolwork takes up a lot of time.

I’ve improved my CV and applied for some more summer-jobs: Dabus, Martinssons, Svensk Systemteknik, Kinnedata, SBL and Academic. None of them had adverticed they needed new staff so it’s a long shot.

aLot of schoolwork now

Oral report for computational intelligence (CI) on tuesday. Statistics laboration due tuesday. CI lab3 due 20th i think. OS lab3 due 18th. Exams in statistics, operating systems, computational intelligence the 19th, 20th and 21th respectively. I better not get a serious cold these coming 2 weeks :) Anyway, it will probably feel really great if I manage to get both statistics and envariable2 math out of my system this semester so it’s worth the effort I think.A funny thing with me is that when there is something (like schoolwork) that really have to be done I feel such incredible urge to do something else, just for an hour or so, I’ll just…and there goes my day. Surfing like nuts, working out, even clean my apartment and do the dishes (and that nearly ever happens otherwise). But I guess that’s only normal behaviour. Feels like you’re doing something even though you’re acting totally moronic since completing what is urgent before anything else is the smart thing to do.I finally registered at Everything2 now and I will start writing some articles as soon as this mess of schoolwork is over. Check it out it’s really a great encyclopedia. It might not be completely accurate on everything but at least you’re able to fix the errors yourself if you find any.

For the first time in a couple of weeks or so I got up at a "normal" hour today, 08:00. Went to school and learned some about Neural Networks, exciting stuff, I just have to write some little application that uses it in some way or another. Then I went to IKSU to xorsize but all that was strengthen was my jaw-muscles. Later tonight Jonas, Lars, Ida and myself went to the movies and watched "Kopps", it was much funnier and more entertaining than I had hoped for so that was great. Tomorrow I will work on the OS lab2 whole day. Also I’m thinking about taking the Statistics course (that I once was supposed to take but didn’t). Then I’ll have to study like hell these coming weeks. We’ll see about that.

Ohh no, not again!

Same old story. School is important. School is good. You should go to school, often. If you go to bed in a reasonable time you will probably make it to school. Coding is fun. While coding you can bump into unexpected problems, and if then you might not be able to sleep until the problem is resolved. Problem is solved, now. But it’s so damn late. And school is important. Hmm…guess I better set the alarmclock and live thru the day. Bummer!
